Eligibility to get a passport
If you are not able to renew your U.S. passport, or if this is your first one, you will need to apply for a new passport. To be eligible, you must be either:
- A U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization or
- A qualifying U.S. non-citizen national
Renewal:
You can renew an expired passport, but only if it was issued within the last 15 years.
Cost:
The fees for obtaining a passport vary depending on your age and whether or not you are a first-time applicant.
For adults (age 16 and older) applying for the first time, there are two fees:
Application Fee: $130
For children under 16 applying for the first time, the following fees apply:
Application Fee: $100
